The beach of Chrissi Akti is located in the Municipal Unit of Nea Kydonia, only a few meters east of Agii Apostoli beach and 2,5 km west of Chania. It has been awarded Blue Flag and its name results from the golden sand of the beach. It constitutes an attraction for thousands of visitors every year, who visit this beach in order to swim in the crystal clear water that is not influenced by meltemi wind. The length of the beach is 500m. It is well organized, including sunbeds, umbrellas and changing room, as well as lifeguard. The beach is ideal for families with children because of the fine sand, the shallow water and the well organized playground.

Nea Chora is a sandy beach with shallow waters that are suitable for children and is well-organized, offering accommodation facilities, sun beds, umbrellas, cafes and nice taverns that serve delicious fresh fish dishes. In fact, Nea Chora is a popular beach among locals and tourists.

Some of Crete’s most beautiful beaches are on the remote south coast extending to the Libyan Sea. Hidden away below Preveli Monastery, this fine pebble beach lies at the mouth of a river and is backed by a lush palm grove. If you walk up the gorge, through the palms, you’ll find a small waterfall. The beach itself is quite difficult to reach, with a narrow, rocky path leading along the coast from the car park and then a long flight of steps. A small taverna on the beach sells snacks and rents sunbeds. The palms were seriously damaged by fire in 2010, but have naturally regenerated since.

The famous lagoon of Balos is located approximately 56km northwest of Chania and 17km northwest of Kissamos, formed between the Cape Gramvousa and the small Cape Tigani and below the range of Platiskinos. Balos is surely the mostly photographed beach in Crete, a very favorite subject of all tourist guides for Greece. Balos is famous for its turquoise waters, the wild natural beauty and the beautiful exotic scenery.

Elafonisi is an island located close to the southwestern corner of the Mediterranean island of Crete, of which it is administratively a part, in the regional unit of Chania. When the weather is fine it is possible to walk to the island through the shallow water. The island is a protected nature reserve.

Falassarna Beach has won prizes for being the most beautiful beach in Crete and is always one of the top ten beaches in Europe, with its wonderful, fine white sand and warm, crystal-clear water. The beach of Pachia Ammos is so big that it rarely feels overcrowded even in high summer, when you are surrounded by hundreds of people. Falassarna Beach is so wide you can only just make out the umbrellas by the sea The only drawback is that the beach is exposed to northerly and westerly winds, so there are often large waves. This, of course, makes it all the more attractive to windsurfers. Falassarna beach is fully organised, with umbrellas and loungers covering most of the area. However, there are several free spots for those who would rather bring their own towel and beach umbrella.

Stavros beach can be found at the north side of the Akrotiri peninsula (east of Chania). It is a sandy beach in a round bay with a river running through.

In Seitang Harbor, on the northeastern side of Akrotiri in western Crete, 20 km from the city of Chania, there is a beach different from all other. The site is known as Seitan Harbors. The word Seitan is Turkish, which has obviously been left since the Ottoman rule in Crete, and is translated as a dialogue. Therefore the Seitan Harbors are translated as the Devil’s. However, the Seyhat Harbor beach looks more paradoxical than diabolical.
